Edward Kelsey Moore ~ Reads You a Story!
Grandma and the Elusive Fifth Crucifix is a funny and touching short story about Grandma Goldine (a resident of fictional Plainview, Indiana) who loves attending funerals. The story was one of four winners out of more than 700 submissions to the Stories on Stage Short Story Competition in 2002. As a winner, it was part of a special presentation and was read aloud by a local actor for a live audience in the theater of the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago. It was subsequently heard as part of a Stories on Stage season broadcast on WBEZ, Chicago’s Public Radio, an affiliate of NPR,
and the story was published in the River Oak Review.
Grandma and the Elusive Fifth Crucifix is part of an Edward Kelsey Moore short story collection
which may someday be published. Meanwhile... please enjoy the free streaming video.
The story, as presented in the video, is part of a longer speech recorded with
Edward Kelsey Moore and a large and lively audience at the
Johnson County Public Library (JCPL) -- White River branch library, near Indianapolis, Indiana.
(With thanks to the JCPL staff for their warm welcome and for the well-coordinated event!)
Edward Kelsey Moore begins reading Grandma and the Elusive Fifth Crucifix at about 13:00 minutes into the presentation
(you can skip ahead to that point by dragging the slider at the bottom of the YouTube screen) and the story lasts
about 22 minutes, though it might take longer if you are laughing real hard and have to go back a bit.
